Writing the Backwash with R. H. Sheldon

Technology Writing

For the longest time, I wasn’t sure what to call the type of writing that addresses my more geeky side, you know, where I get into the nitty gritty of databases and business intelligence and scripting and operating systems and whatever else sounds interesting or I find particularly annoying. But now I call this side of me a technology writer. I had considered calling myself a technology journalist, but I googled both terms and technology writer won out. I chose the most popular one because I wanted folks to know what the hell I was talking about should they ask what sort of writing I do, and whenever I tell people I’m a writer, they invariable ask what sort of writing I do.

And it turns out I’ve done a lot of this sort writing. For one thing, I’ve written a bunch of technology books. (Okay, I know, what a geek, but hey, a book’s a book, and it beats getting a real job.) And I’ve written a ton of technology focused articles. Those I’ve grouped by publication:

Simple-Talk

TechTarget

SearchConsumerization

SearchEnterpriseDesktop

SearchSQLServer

SearchSystemsChannel

Windows IT Pro

This grouping might change. Or it might not.
